The Cause Of Fear

Norman Vincent Peale wrote:

"Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but also the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all."

Amongst other things was Peale saying it’s okay to make mistakes?

Of course he was, but he was saying so much more.

Mr Peale was telling us to do something, to do anything as long as it causes us to step into action - forwards or backwards, to the left or to the right, it’s all movement and with movement comes momentum. With momentum comes opportunity - opportunity to decide what's best for you. Very rarely will something come to someone who simply sits and waits in fear.

It should of course go without saying that our actions need to be centered around good motives, beneficial outcomes, and come as a consequence and the promise of hard work.

Peale also impresses upon us that fear not only causes inaction but that the inaction itself can also create fear. Inactivity then could lead to a self-perpetuating cage of fear holding us back from all the opportunities that are available to us. Inactivity causes fear; fear causes inactivity, inactivity causes fear and so on.

For many years now ARIA has used the tagline "Action and Courage" on our documentation in relation to our sales training and mass revenue generation projects. We have always hoped however this slogan has been representative of more than cute words and rather has become a pointer to the truth.

'Action' is deliberately placed first in our tagline because without it your fear will be very difficult to overcome. Once you've stepped into action your fear will wash away and then, and only then, the courage will come.

Sell without regret.

Michael
